EFM Investments & Advisory (EFM) is seeking a Controller to lead its accounting functions for multiple legal entities, including EFMI’s management company and managed investment funds. As Controller, you will oversee all accounting operations and coordinate the preparation and distribution of internal and external financial reporting. You will also play a crucial role in supervising and mentoring staff, ensuring quality control over financial transactions, and providing strategic financial information to stakeholders.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Fund Administration
- Oversee all accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, cost accounting, cost allocation, investment accounting, and reconciliations.
- Manage the month-end and year-end accounting close processes.
- Prepare monthly financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare annual budgets and update quarterly financial forecasts.
- Manage ongoing federal, state, and local income tax filings and payments.
- Manage the production of all fund notices including capital calls and distributions.
- Create and maintain policies and procedures for accounting processes and required regulatory compliance areas.
- Supervise fund audits and tax document preparation.
Investor Reporting
- Manage the data, tools, and calculations that feed the fund investor statements.
- Produce and distribute quarterly investor performance reporting.
General Management
- Oversee various administrative, employee, and office needs including but not limited to insurance, employee benefits, external service provider performance, facilities, and employee onboarding/offboarding.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years as a Controller in financial services, timberland, real estate investment business, or similar.
- FP&A experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access with the ability to develop and manage complex financial models, fund management tools, and software.
- CPA and prior experience with Big 4 audit firm or high-profile national/regional firm is a plus.
- Ability to multi-task and work in an entrepreneurial environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to both internal and external audiences.
