We believe climate-smart strategies are the future of real asset investing.
EFM believes that natural forests are worth more than the commodity value of the timber they produce. Our strategy prioritizes long-term social and ecological value alongside financial returns. This approach considers the whole value of the forest to include timber, conservation, carbon, biodiversity, clean water, rural livelihoods, tribal values, recreational access and more.
Our work is supported by a wide array of mission-aligned investors through commingled funds and separate accounts. EFM acquires forestland assets with unique environmental and social attributes and manages these lands to FSC® standards – the highest benchmark for responsible forestry. As active forestland managers, we work to enhance forest health and productivity while harvesting timber to create rural economic vitality.
EFM has acquired more than 150,000 acres of forestland and has more than $250 million of assets under management and advisement. We use tools like conservation easements, carbon projects, ecosystem credits and grant funding to implement our climate-smart strategy and create a desired future condition for the forest ecosystem. We have been pioneering this alternative approach to commercial forestland management since 2005.
